StartProto's Kiosk Mode provides a streamlined and secure way for multiple operators to access a shared hardware system while maintaining individual accountability through detailed logging. This feature is particularly useful in environments where hardware is shared among several users, such as in manufacturing, warehousing, or production facilities, helping to keep costs down while ensuring operational efficiency.

How It Works: Operator Interface and PIN Access

The operator interface in StartProto's Kiosk Mode is designed for simplicity and security. When you approach a StartProto kiosk, you'll be greeted with a login screen displaying the current date and time, as well as a numeric keypad for entering your PIN. Here's a step-by-step breakdown of how to use it:

  1. Access the Kiosk: Upon starting the kiosk, the screen will display the date, time, and a prompt to "Enter your employee PIN to log in." For example, the screen might show "Thursday, May 23, 10:45 AM" along with the StartProto logo and a numeric keypad.

  2. Enter Your Unique PIN: Each operator is assigned a unique PIN, which acts as their personal key to access the system. Using the on-screen numeric keypad, input your PIN. The keypad includes numbers 0-9, a backspace button (to correct mistakes), and a clear button (to reset the entry).

  3. Log In: Once you've entered your PIN, press the blue "LOG IN" button to access your account. If you have administrative privileges or need to access an admin account, there’s also an "Admin Login" option available at the bottom right of the screen.

Instructions for Setting Up Kiosk Mode in StartProto

Follow these steps to configure Kiosk Mode for your StartProto system:

  1. Access User Management
Navigate to the User Management section by visiting:
    https://app.startproto.com/user-management/users.

  2. Activate Kiosk Mode
In the "Users" tab, locate the user you wish to enable Kiosk Mode for. Under the "KIOSK MODE" column, ensure the status is set to "Active." If it’s "Not Active," click into the user and assign a unique PIN to the user.

  3. Copy the Kiosk Login URL
At the top right of the "Users" page, click the "Copy Kiosk Login URL" button (as shown in the screenshot). This will copy the URL needed to access the Kiosk Mode login page.

  4. Set Up the Kiosk Computer
On the computer you intend to use as the kiosk, open a web browser and paste the copied Kiosk Login URL. This will direct the computer to the Kiosk Mode login screen, where users can log in using their assigned PINs.

Benefits of PIN-Based Access

  • Individual Accountability: Each operator’s unique PIN ensures that all actions performed on the shared hardware are logged under their specific account. This allows for detailed tracking of activities, which can be crucial for auditing, troubleshooting, or performance monitoring.

  • Cost Efficiency: By using a shared hardware setup with Kiosk Mode, businesses can reduce the need for dedicated devices for each user, significantly lowering hardware costs while still maintaining personalized access.

  • Security and Simplicity: The PIN system is straightforward to use, requiring no additional hardware like keycards, and ensures that only authorized personnel can access the system. It also keeps user data separate, enhancing security.

Tips for Using Kiosk Mode

  • Keep Your PIN Secure: Treat your PIN like a password—don’t share it with others to maintain the integrity of your account and the accuracy of activity logs.

  • Double-Check Your Entry: Use the backspace or clear buttons if you make a mistake while entering your PIN to avoid login issues.

  • Admin Access: If you’re an administrator, use the "Admin Login" option for elevated access to system settings or to manage user accounts.

StartProto’s Kiosk Mode with PIN access strikes a balance between shared resource efficiency and individual user tracking, making it an ideal solution for teams looking to optimize their operations without compromising on accountability or security.
