Pick Tickets coordinate the physical movement of material from wherever it's stored to a staging location, where operators can then consume it to perform their work. All of that movement is tracked, giving you data on how material gets staged for production.
This may be a task best suited by material handlers or coordinators, serving as a bridge between the warehouse and production in a procedural and configurable manner.
Note: Defining Locations is a pre-requisite for leveraging Pick Tickets.
Enabling Pick Ticket Functionality
Pick Tickets are turned on at the module level first, then configured per operation.
1. Go to Business Setup → Warehouse Management.
2. Enable the Generate Pick Tickets functionality for the module.
This will create the new Warehouse module on the right-hand side, which contains the Picking Queue, Pick History, and Locations tabs.
For now, all of these tabs will be empty.
Tab | Description |
Picking Queue | Shows all pick tickets, their status, delivery location, due date, and assigned picker. |
Pick History | History of all prior pick sessions. |
Locations | Shows all pick tickets by location. |
Once enabled at the module level, individual routing steps (operations) can opt in. (See below.)
Configuring an Operation for Pick Tickets
Pick Tickets are enabled per routing step on a Make Item, not globally for the whole item.
1. Open the Make Item and switch to Edit mode.
2. Go to the routing step (operation) you want to enable Pick Tickets for.
3. Toggle on Generate Pick Tickets.
4. Specify a Staging Location — this is where material handlers/coordinators will move material to, and where the operator will draw material from to perform the work.
5. Repeat for any other routing steps that should use Pick Tickets.
6. Save the Make Item.
In many cases, the staging location might simply be set to the same location as the default consumption location of the input items being used, since the input items typically needs to end up there anyway.
You can enable this for as many or as few operations as you'd like, which makes it easy to pilot the feature on a subset of operations first, on whichever assemblies you choose.
What Operators See
Pick Tickets only appear once there's active demand (a job) for the item — without a job, there's nothing for the operator to work against and the Pick Ticket indicator won't show.
On the operator's WIP screen (and from Operator Home by searching for the job), you'll see:
A count of how much material is available to build (i.e., how many units of work-in-process could be created from what's on hand).
A count of how much material has been staged so far.
Escalating a pick ticket
If an operator is running low on staged material, they can flag it directly from this screen:
Click the Pick Ticket indicator/button next to the job.
Select the option to request material be delivered to the staging location (e.g., "Need material delivered").
Click Escalate.
This notifies material handlers/coordinators that material is needed at that staging location. Escalated requests show up in the warehouse Pick Queue.
Once an escalation is filed, material handlers / coordinators can see the escalation status marked as a flag beside the associated Pick Ticket, and hover over it for the number of escalations. For example:
Fulfilling Pick Tickets
Material handlers / coordinators work Pick Tickets from the warehouse side.
Go to Warehouse → Pick Queue.
You'll see pending Pick Tickets, labeled by the item/operation they support, including any operator-escalated requests.
Select the Pick Tickets you'd like to include in the Pick Session then start the Pick Items.
Starting a session generates pick tickets for every material used by that operation that has Pick Tickets enabled.
For each material:
If the material exists in multiple locations, you can choose which location(s) to pick from and how much to pick from each.
The screen shows the percentage of the required quantity picked so far.
Once you've picked the needed quantity from the appropriate location(s), Confirm the picks.
Complete the pick to close it out.
Picking from current stock.
Completing Pick.
The Picker for each ticket in the Picking Queue will be assigned to the user once they start a Pick Session.
This flow will feel familiar if you've used work sessions before — the difference is that instead of performing the assembly work, you're performing the work of moving material into position so the operator can do the assembly.
Session summary
After completing a pick session, you'll see key metrics.
This includes:
Start date
Session duration
Number of tickets in the session vs. number fulfilled
Time breakdown (e.g., time spent paused)
Source locations material was drawn from to fulfill the session
All of this data is then stored for later reference and review in the Pick History tab...
... and is also viewable by Location in the Locations tab.
Back at the Operator
Once a Pick Ticket has been fulfilled:
Searching the job again shows the material as staged and ready — the option to escalate is no longer available for that ticket since it's already been completed.
The operator can now start their work session as normal, consuming the staged material.
After completing that step, the process repeats at the next routing step if Pick Tickets are enabled there too.
If there are operations that do not have additional items as input items, then these are good candidates to skip pick tickets on, since no additional items need to be delivered as part of the operation.
Quick Reference
Term | Meaning |

Pick Session | The warehouse-side workflow for picking and delivering material against one or more Pick Tickets. |
Pick Queue | Warehouse view listing outstanding Pick Tickets and escalations to work. |
Staging Location | Where material is moved to so operators can consume it. Configured per operation. |
Escalate | Operator-initiated flag telling material handlers more material is needed at a staging location. |
Where to Configure
Business Setup → Warehouse Management — enable Pick Tickets for the module.
Make Item → Edit → Routing Step → Generate Pick Tickets + Staging Location — enable per operation and set the destination.
Warehouse → Pick Queue — where material handlers work outstanding Pick Tickets.
