An Exciting Transformation!

StartProto is a paperless system. Shop employees will access all documents via a web browser on devices out in the shop. All data is instantly available from any web browser and devices are also used for entering information and capturing tribal knowledge. This eliminates issues like losing job packets, old or dirty drawings, and confusion caused by outdated revisions.

Our most successful customers invest in the appropriate device hardware to make sure their team has the tools they need to adopt StartProto properly. Installing this hardware is often exciting for your team and an indicator to them that you’re taking this next step in your business transformation seriously.

Let’s get Started!

Shop Workstation Computers

Lathe Workstation Touch Screen Computer

We encourage touchscreen computers for all operator stations as our interface is designed around these flows. For this, we recommend the following screen + pc combo:

Assembly Station Computer

For workstations that benefit from larger screens or require more data entry, you can add the following keyboard stand and keyboard/mouse combo and swap out the screen as you see fit.

Creative mounting using 80/20 rail to controller sheet metal and a Vesa Arm

Computer mounting options vary greatly based on your machines, workstations, walls, etc. Many of our customers have some good fun trying to find creative solutions. The only requirement is that your solution has a Vesa mount for the monitor. (Vesa standard is a 100mm x 100mm hole pattern)

Tablets

  • iPad 12.9 inch screen:

    • The large screen of the iPad is ideal for viewing detailed drawings and documents, enhancing the user experience on the shop floor.

    • We recommend looking at ‘renewed’ or ‘refurbished’ units from Amazon or eBay - search for ‘Apple iPad Pro 12.9in 2nd Gen’ - example listing here

    • Price: $300-600 - Variable based on storage options - any capacity will do

    • Brand: Apple

  • iPad Charging Station:

    • A file-folder stand works great for holding iPads during charging, buy here

    • A multi-port charger is recommended for these charging stations, our recommendation: Anker 60w 6 port Charger

    • We can also provide the 3d print file for a custom-designed charging station

  • Case with Stand and Screen Protector:

    • A robust protective case with a stand and screen protector, ideal for use on the shop floor to keep the iPad safe and functional.

    • Price: $30 - $40

Esky Barcode Scanner
The Esky Barcode Scanner, compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux, supports both 1D and 2D QR codes. This feature makes it an excellent choice for operations that require scanning a diverse range of barcodes, such as inventory tracking, order management, and receipt verification. By integrating these tools, shop floors can optimize labeling and scanning processes, improving overall accuracy and productivity.

Internet + WiFi

StartProto is a cloud software and therefore requires an internet connection - meaning that it’s important for your shop to have a strong network.

A speed of 60mbps is recommended at all work areas, 20 - 30mbps is the minimum to ensure a smooth experience. Use a site like fast.com to test the speed using a mobile device.

If you do not already meet these requirements, talk to your IT department or MSP to see what they recommend – we are also happy to provide advice as needed.

Generally, if WiFi coverage or speed needs to be improved in an area of the shop, more access points are needed there. We recommend the following as a quick and cheap solution:

    • We like these because they can be run standalone from a matching brand router and can be deployed using the companion app.

For a more full-system upgrade, we like the Ubiquiti line of products. For more info or to plan out a system yourself, visit their design center where you can upload a floor plan and design your optimal coverage. Systems will generally consist of:
