Overview
StartProto is designed to support multiple demand sources- including both Jobs and directly from Sales Order Line Items. However, depending use case it may make sense to configure the system to schedule only jobs. StartProto currently supports two scheduling modes: Jobs Only and Jobs + Line Items - Quantity Unaware.
To view what mode your StartProto instance is in visit: https://app.startproto.com/globalconfig/demandgenerationmode
Jobs Only
In this scheduling mode, only jobs are scheduled. Any line items that aren't linked to demand will stay that way until they are assigned to a job.
Below is an example of what a Jobs Only configuration looks like:
Jobs + Line Items - Quantity Unaware
In this scheduling mode, both jobs and direct Sales Order Line Items can be scheduled. However, as soon as a line item is added to a job, it no longer directly gets its' demand scheduled, even if the job doesn't satisfy the full demand (hence the "quantity unaware")
Below is an example of what a Jobs + Line Items configuration looks like:
Changing the Scheduling Mode:
You can change the scheduling mode by visiting the "Scheduling Mode" tab on the shop settings page. Updating the scheduling mode causes a full system reset, which can be disruptive to your shop operations. Please be careful while using this feature!
